Activate Your Network

Conversation with

KENNY AMES

If you're like me, you have nearly twenty years of experience and contacts in your field. When searching for your next career move, it is critical to activate your network and get them working for you.

In my job search, I have relied upon a number of methods to utilize my relationships. From documenting every interaction to follow up, it is helpful to methodically and tactically track your progress. In this session, we will talk about using current technologies and strategies from Google Keep to LinkedIn and various job boards.

Your network is one of the most powerful tools you have. Make sure it is working as hard and strategically as you are.

About the Speaker:

Kenny Ames is an experienced public policy professional. His background spans nearly twenty years in government, advocacy, business development, and strategic communications. His long-time love for politics brought him from Massachusetts to Washington, D.C., where he attended The George Washington University.

After graduation, he served as special assistant to Congressman Steny Hoyer and subsequently joined the staff of his hometown congressman, Barney Frank. In 2007, he joined Capitol Advantage (later acquired by CQ Roll Call) as director of client relationships. He then served as Director of Business Development at Fireside21 and worked in strategic communications and for a publishing firm.

An expert in communicating with elected officials, Kenny graduated summa cum laude from the Johns Hopkins University with a master’s degree in government and concentration in political communications. His thesis titled, “Social Media #FTW!: The Influence of Social Media on American Politics” passed with honors and won the William F. Clinger Jr. Award for outstanding thesis in institutional or representative government. With his experience and knowledge of Capitol Hill, Kenny helps associations and their advocates communicate effectively with key decision makers.
