Statement of Support: 

As an organization that empowers experienced professionals, managers, and executives for successful career transitions, 40Plus of Greater Washington serves professionals of all races and ethnicities. We stand firm in our support of all people who have been affected by the horrendous racist and violent acts in our country.

We condemn the police brutality that led to the tragic and needless death of George Floyd, along with others before him such as Breonna Taylor, Philando Castile and Eric Garner. We also condemn the violence, bigotry and systemic racism that has occurred during the past 400 years, particularly against black men and women in our nation. Furthermore, we stand firmly against discrimination of any kind including age discrimination, which frustrates many of our members during their search for new employment.

We offer our condolences to the family of George Floyd, his friends and loved ones. As a way to honor his memory, we stand ready to work with other agencies and community-based organizations, along with the community at large, to end injustice in all its forms against the oppressed and all persons of color.

Gordon Silcox is an independent coach and consultant in the areas of executive development, career planning and job search.

Prior to establishing his firm in 2003, Gordon was Senior Vice President in the Washington, DC office of Manchester, Inc., the highly regarded human resources consulting firm. Opening that office in 1987, he was directly involved in the growth of the firm's successful career counseling and leadership coaching services. A highly seasoned consultant in a wide range of industries and functional specialties, his activities have included executive coaching, career counseling, client services and business development.

A lifelong resident of the Washington, DC area, Gordon earlier headed the Washington office of an international executive recruiting firm, serving a total of nine years in the field of retained executive search. Earlier, he managed the trust investment department of First American Bank NA (now Wachovia) in Washington and also taught management courses for the American Bankers Association.

He is a speaker and panelist before business, community and alumni groups and is a past president and a founding director of the Human Resource Leadership Forum, the DC-area affiliate of the international Human Resource Planning Society. For the seventh year, in 2008, Gordon is a member of the panel of expert judges to select AARP's "Best Employers for Workers Over 50."

Gordon is a graduate of the Leadership Coaching program at Georgetown University's Center for Professional Development.

He received his MBA in finance from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and his A.B. degree in English from Princeton University. He lives in Fairfax, VA.
