Empowering Experienced Professionals for Successful Career Transitions

Statement of Support:

As an organization that empowers experienced professionals, managers, and executives for successful career transitions, 40Plus of Greater Washington serves professionals of all races and ethnicities. We stand firm in our support of all people who have been affected by the horrendous racist and violent acts in our country.

We condemn the police brutality that led to the tragic and needless death of George Floyd, along with others before him such as Breonna Taylor, Philando Castile and Eric Garner. We also condemn the violence, bigotry and systemic racism that has occurred during the past 400 years, particularly against black men and women in our nation. Furthermore, we stand firmly against discrimination of any kind including age discrimination, which frustrates many of our members during their search for new employment.

We offer our condolences to the family of George Floyd, his friends and loved ones. As a way to honor his memory, we stand ready to work with other agencies and community-based organizations, along with the community at large, to end injustice in all its forms against the oppressed and all persons of color.

Monday Morning Speaker: Michelle James

Creative thinking is no longer an option - it is essential to help us meet the demands of rapidly changing times in new, effective and time saving ways. In this informative and highly experiential session, you will learn the core principles of creative thinking and how to bring your whole-brain to work - using new ways to meet old and new challenges. You will also learn a key method to change problem-thinking into opportunity-thinking, and you will have a chance to put creativity techniques into action around a real work/life situation. From problem solving to new vision creating, these are engaging practices you can apply to any situation.

BIO: Michelle James has been pioneering Applied Creativity and Applied Improvisation in business in the Washington, DC area for over 15 years. She is CEO of The Center for Creative Emergence  and founder of the Capitol Creativity Network. In 2009, she was recognized for Visionary Leadership in Fast Company’s blog, Leading Change, for “her commitment to bring creative expression into the work environment in a very deep and meaningful way.” Michelle is a business creativity catalyst, facilitator and coach who has designed and delivered hundreds of programs for entrepreneurs, leaders, and organizations such as Microsoft, Deloitte, Panasonic, GEICO, NIH, World Bank, Teach for America, Panasonic, and Kaiser Permanente among others. Her original programs have been featured on TV, the radio and in print.

Plan to join us after the meeting for networking.  Many of us carry our conversations to lunch at the nearby Brookings Institution.

Attire is business casual, recruiters are often present, so we ask all Monday Speaker attendees to contribute to the professional standards and objectives of this important networking meeting.

Doors open at 9:15 for networking and the program starts promptly at 10:00.
