Katherine will show real-life examples of applications she received when she was hiring for various positions, and participants will have the chance to consider them from the employer's point of view:  What works in these documents?  What doesn't work?  Would you interview this candidate? 

Bring a job description for an open position, draft cover letter, and resume, and you may have the opportunity to get Katherine's and the group's feedback.

About The Speaker

KATHERINE METRES

Katherine Metres is the president of her company, Your Edge for Success (YES) LLC, which provides award-winning writing services to make you shine. She holds a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University, has published 20 articles, and is the co-author of two books. 

Katherine served as a U.S. diplomat in Africa and Italy and worked as a human rights professional in the Middle East, where she won $3M for grant projects she developed and wrote. She has also won awards for her journalism, academic writing, and original oratory.

After developing a very effective resume and cover letter writing process for her own career, Katherine began sharing this skill with clients. (She wishes she could share it with job applicants, who often frustrate her by putting their worst foot forward!) Katherine works together with a Certified Professional Resume Writer, Greg Faherty, who has helped over 8000 people get a better job. As a team, they draft client documents through a synergistic collaboration between the client, Greg as writer, and Katherine as editor.

Katherine moved to the area a year ago from Chicago. She currently resides in the Cathedral Heights neighborhood of Washington, D.C.

  1. Leave the Dupont Circle Metro Station by the 19th Street SOUTH exit.
  2. At the top of the escalator (street level), turn 180 degrees, and walk a short distance towards Dupont Circle.
  3. Turn right and walk counter-clockwise around the outside of the Circle, past Connecticut and Massachusetts Avenues.
  4. At P Street, turn right . Proceed on P Street past 18th Street.
  5. 40Plus is near the end of the block on the right side, at 1718 P Street, in the Webster House apartment building.
