Empowering Experienced Professionals for Successful Career Transitions

Statement of Support:

As an organization that empowers experienced professionals, managers, and executives for successful career transitions, 40Plus of Greater Washington serves professionals of all races and ethnicities. We stand firm in our support of all people who have been affected by the horrendous racist and violent acts in our country.

We condemn the police brutality that led to the tragic and needless death of George Floyd, along with others before him such as Breonna Taylor, Philando Castile and Eric Garner. We also condemn the violence, bigotry and systemic racism that has occurred during the past 400 years, particularly against black men and women in our nation. Furthermore, we stand firmly against discrimination of any kind including age discrimination, which frustrates many of our members during their search for new employment.

We offer our condolences to the family of George Floyd, his friends and loved ones. As a way to honor his memory, we stand ready to work with other agencies and community-based organizations, along with the community at large, to end injustice in all its forms against the oppressed and all persons of color.

Writing a Powerful Resume

Marshall Brown, President, Marshall Brown & Associates

What is considered an effective and powerful resume? One that attracts the attention of hiring authorities, showcases your relevant work background, demonstrates you have the right qualifications for the job, and illustrates how you can benefit an organization.

Join Marshall as he reviews how to identify key work expertise and experiences and bundle them together to develop a resume projecting your unique professional niche.

40Plus welcomes Marshall back once again; a tried and true friend of 40Plus, who brings high quality presentations, Marshall has been a frequent speaker in our Monday series.

Marshall Brown, PCC, founder of Marshall Brown & Associates, is a certified executive and career coach. Marshall has always had a passion for helping professionals find ways to succeed in the workplace while living happy and fulfilling lives. He channeled his interest and energy into a career in human resources, beginning with a very successful tenure as director of the Greater Washington Society of Association Executives' career services center. While in this role, professionals ranging from executive to entry levels came to Marshall without a clear articulation of who they were, what they were looking for, and the compelling reasons why someone should hire them. As a result, Marshall saw the need to go beyond just helping people find jobs.

Marshall developed a personalized, "no nonsense" approach to getting people at all levels to focus on career direction, performance improvement and becoming a more effective leader. This approach is the foundation for Marshall's unique and highly effective brand of executive and career coaching.

As he worked with individual associations, Marshall recognized their challenge in creating value-added services for members. In response to this unique need, Marshall expanded his services to include one-on-one career and executive coaching and career programs for meeting and conference attendees. He also developed services to create and improve online career centers.

In working with Marshall, senior level executives shared their challenges in managing and motivating staff and volunteer leaders. Marshall now offers customized improvement programs for employees and member volunteers that fit the unique needs of each association client.

Marshall is the Past Board President of the DC Chapters of both the International Coach Federation and the Association of Career Professionals International. He is an active member and volunteer leader for the American Society of Association Executives and the Center for Association Leadership.

Marshall publishes his own monthly e-newsletter called “It’s All About You!” He also writes a monthly career column for Association Trends called "Ask the Coach," and has published articles in leading association management magazines and newsletters.

Marshall's book, High Level Resumes, released in January 2005, reflects his successful work in leading hundreds of job candidates in creating compelling professional resumes. His speaking engagements have attracted hundreds of association and business professionals from across the country.

Marshall has a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh and is certified by the International Coach Federation and Career Coaches Institute. He grew up in Pittsburgh and now resides in Washington, DC.

Marshall enjoys spending time with friends who appreciate his upbeat and positive approach to life, engaging sense of humor, and ability to really listen to what they have to say.
