Empowering Experienced Professionals for Successful Career Transitions

Statement of Support:

As an organization that empowers experienced professionals, managers, and executives for successful career transitions, 40Plus of Greater Washington serves professionals of all races and ethnicities. We stand firm in our support of all people who have been affected by the horrendous racist and violent acts in our country.

We condemn the police brutality that led to the tragic and needless death of George Floyd, along with others before him such as Breonna Taylor, Philando Castile and Eric Garner. We also condemn the violence, bigotry and systemic racism that has occurred during the past 400 years, particularly against black men and women in our nation. Furthermore, we stand firmly against discrimination of any kind including age discrimination, which frustrates many of our members during their search for new employment.

We offer our condolences to the family of George Floyd, his friends and loved ones. As a way to honor his memory, we stand ready to work with other agencies and community-based organizations, along with the community at large, to end injustice in all its forms against the oppressed and all persons of color.

Cracking the Code: Your Federal Job Search

Speaker Website:

Did you know that the Obama Administration is hiring over 270,000 jobs over the next three years? Would you like to be selected for one of these jobs?

Hear from a former HR Specialist from the Office of Personnel Management about the Federal application process and understand how to create Federal application materials that will set you apart from the competition.

As a former GS-15 Human Resources Specialist, Corliss Jackson possesses extensive Federal Human Resources experience in the areas of staffing, recruitment, and retention. She embarked on her Federal career by developing and managing the first Career Center for the Department of Health and Human Services at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

As Center Director, Corliss developed multiple programs supporting recruitment, retention, career counseling and employee development initiatives for NIH’s 18,000 employees. Under her leadership, the Center received a government-wide award for outstanding program, and has been touted as a model across government.

After leaving NIH, Corliss served as Special Assistant to the Associate Director at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), responsible for several large scale human resources projects. She designed and managed a comprehensive staff development program for employees nationwide to identify skills and core competencies required for the workforce of the future. The program targeted over 2,000 employees across the nation and was the first of its kind at OPM.

Additionally, as Program Manager for OPM’s Strategic Human Resources Policy Division, Corliss partnered with the Government Accountability Office to implement a government-wide study. The study was designed to identify current career and work-life needs of Federal employees, to plan effective recruitment and retention strategies for the future workforce.

Corliss holds a Master of Public Administration degree from The Ohio State University, where she specialized in organizational change management and is a Certified Professional with the International Personnel Management Association. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo where she majored in Urban and Public Policy.

Ms. Jackson is extremely knowledgeable about the Federal hiring process and has written hundreds of Federal applications resulting in an extraordinary track record of success.

Additionally, she has provided expert consulting on various Human Resources projects for many Federal agencies including:
