Empowering Experienced Professionals for Successful Career Transitions

Statement of Support:

As an organization that empowers experienced professionals, managers, and executives for successful career transitions, 40Plus of Greater Washington serves professionals of all races and ethnicities. We stand firm in our support of all people who have been affected by the horrendous racist and violent acts in our country.

We condemn the police brutality that led to the tragic and needless death of George Floyd, along with others before him such as Breonna Taylor, Philando Castile and Eric Garner. We also condemn the violence, bigotry and systemic racism that has occurred during the past 400 years, particularly against black men and women in our nation. Furthermore, we stand firmly against discrimination of any kind including age discrimination, which frustrates many of our members during their search for new employment.

We offer our condolences to the family of George Floyd, his friends and loved ones. As a way to honor his memory, we stand ready to work with other agencies and community-based organizations, along with the community at large, to end injustice in all its forms against the oppressed and all persons of color.

Creating Your Own Web Site

Speaker Website:

Bevi Chagnon: Web Guru, Marketing Specialist, Web Designer

Any business needs a web site, whether independent proprietors, solo consultants, or freelancers. Bevi Chagnon offers practical advice on how to make it happen fast, at low cost, using the best currently available service providers.

Learn how to choose a URL, register a URL, finding the best registrars, first setting up the "small brochure" web site, then adding more relevant content, such as portfolio, testimonials, and other info.

Bevi Chagnon is head of PubCom which provides website development, desktop publishing, and cross-media publishing. She is also a contributing partner (writer) for, one of the Internet's leading websites for not only website development, but also print and Acrobat publishing, too.

She is known as one of the best instructors in the Washington, D.C. area in the realm of digital-media-and-publishing-for-government-and- non-profits. She is also an award-winning graphic designer.

Bevi is half designer, half geek, and 100 percent teacher. She's a prolific writer on design, web, desktop publishing, 508 accessibility, technology, and digital media. Look for her work in your class (your custom workbooks), as well as online in various forums, tech lists, and websites.

Her 35+ years in the industry has seen her as a typesetter, magazine art director, graphic designer, marketing copywriter, direct mail guru, publications director, programmer, and website developer.

Topics she teaches: graphic design, web design, 508 accessibility, printing technologies, cross-media / digital media technologies, management, desktop publishing, Acrobat, photography, image correction, marketing.

Spare time endeavors: photography, gardening, home renovations, and not cooking. She'll design and build a kitchen, but won't cook in one!
